Dear Friend
FUNDRAISING - SPONSOR A HORSE
As you know, with Teen Ranch having a Western theme, horse riding is the main activity here.
It never ceases to amaze me, the way the campers fall in love with their horse.  Even the horses that try to
eat grass the whole way round a trail, will still be enthusiastically spoken about at meal times by their
challenged rider.  It's lovely.
You may not be aware that Teen Ranch Scotland depends highly on donations to meet many of the
upkeep and running costs of the work.  Camp fees received cover direct camp related costs, such as
food, heat & light, some activity costs.  But most other Ranch costs have to be met by donations
kindly given throughout the year.
You may be interested to help meet an area of specific cost - relating to the upkeep of our herd of horses.
The following shows horse costs for two specific years:
To Jan 2003 To Jan 2002
(final a/cs) (final a/cs)
Hay costs - fertiliser, hay cutting and baling 2,991 2,348
and other feed
Veterinary (worming, injuries, etc) 1,608 2,482
Farrier 2,619 2,015
Tack and yard maintenance 551 678
Licences and other costs 465 434
£8,234 £7,957
Total say £8,000 per year.  The herd varies in total, usually between 24 and 30 horses/ponies.
That makes the average cost per year per horse, at least around £240.
Which if met by one person, would involve a donation of £20 per month. **
If we received additional donations of £8,000 a year for 'sponsor a horse', that means that as well as
having our horse costs covered, we no longer have to use our usual donations for horse costs.
As a result, the money out of normal donations that had to be used on horse costs, can be used for other
things eg maintenance, programme equipment, TREE.  So it is not only the horses that will benefit from
your donations but we hope, the Ranch as a whole.
** You may not be able to contribute the whole amount but should you wish to contribute £x per
month towards the horse you would like to sponsor, details can be found on the following page:
We are going to put a poster up at the barn, with a photo of each horse on it, and the heading
"These horses are kindly sponsored by:".  As we get replies, "your group" or "your name" can
be put under each horse as they get chosen.
Thank you in anticipation of your interest.
Yours sincerely
Colina
